6 free growth strategies to scale your SaaS

If you have a SaaS or thinking of building one, you’d probably be interested in scaling it. And, if you don’t have a huge budget or if you’re just afraid of investing too much at first, free and organic growth strategies might be appealing to you.

I have found 6 different strategies that I’m using myself to grow SoloCodeVenture and I want to share them with you today.

Let’s dive in.

Table of Contents

Crush it on Product Hunt

If you don’t know what Product Hunt is, it’s basically a platform where people can post the product they’re working on and have it featured in daily recaps, it’s one of the best platforms for gaining exposure and early adopters.

Many complain that nowadays it has become insanely difficult to rank on Product Hunt but in my opinion, if you’re product is valuable in first place and if your launch is appealing, you can totally make it there.

Many have built other alternatives like:

  • Simplelister

  • Uneed

  • Microlaunch

  • Betalist

To solve the issues and the high competition Product Hunt have.

I’ve personally used product hunt and while my launch wasn’t one of those super successes with tons of upvotes and comments, it still managed to drive some users.

This was the launch I did for a product back in the days, miserable but still…

Leverage referrals

Note: this works best if you already have users/readers

But if you do, you can offer a discount, a free product, pretty much anything that can be valuable for your audience and provide it for each user they bring in.

For example, I’m doing the same here for SoloCodeVenture: if you’re subscribed and you bring just one subscriber you can get a free Notion Template to organize your SaaS.

That’s how it works:

In my case I use my publication’s tool to create a referral but if you want to integrate it in your website, you can use tools like:

  • Referral Factory

  • InviteReferrals

  • Viral Loops

By doing so you basically use your already engaged users into marketing source to boost your business

Create social media organic content

That’s probably the first one that comes up to mind when talking about free marketing strategies.

Choose your favorite social media (and the one that best suits your product based on where your ideal customer hangs out) and start creating content on it.

You won’t see results at first but if you stick to it for long enough your growth would be insane.

Attention: Don’t make posts feel too advertising, focus on create valuable content people enjoy consuming and have your link everywhere in your socials so it can be easy for your followers to discover about your product and use it.

Yeah… I’m still working on this…

Cross promote

This is mainly known among newsletters and if you’re subscribed to SoloCodeVenture you would’ve probably see me doing it with other newsletter like this:

Chronicles"Join over 100's of us for your fortnightly inspiration, insights, and opportunities in social impact space."

Now, this works great if you have a newsletter like I do but it can also be done within SaaS.

If I were you I would first find SaaS in my same niche and reach out to the owner. I would then ask if it was possible to add a mutual banner like if it was an ad banner but without paying anything. I add your banner to my website and you add mine to yours.

It’s 100% free and both would find it beneficial in the long run as their user base grows.
