Competitive Analysis 🥇

Even though there are already different solutions that do what our platform does, there are a few aspects we could incorporate in the development process to differentiate and beat the competition.

  • Advanced customisation and design - Offer different style templates to match the vibe and kind of the restaurant and make it effortless to customise colours and style

  • Multi language support - Allow the business owner to translate the menu in different languages or offer automatic translation (pay attention if you decide to do this because the quality of the translation might be poor)

  • Unique QR code features - Customise the QR Codes to match the restaurant branding and make them dynamic in order to allow to update the menu without having to replace the physical materials

  • Mobile optimised websites - The digital menus would be viewed from a mobile so make sure the website is optimised for quick load times with a nice design optimised for the vertical form factor

  • Competitive pricing - If you want to target small/medium size restaurants, you need to offer pricing within their capabilities (more on this later)

  • In depth analytics - Allow the restaurant owners to get in depth analytics from the customer’s behaviours (ex. How much time checking the menu, which items are selected more)

  • Allow “order” for customers - You don’t need to make it connected to the kitchen but it would be a niche feature to add: allow customers to add to a sort of “order” to keep track of what they want to order whenever the waiter asks what to order (which would allow to have more datas for the analytics)

Development roadmap and tech stack 🚧

Step-by-step development plan

Here’s the steps I would do if I wanted to build this idea from scratch

Technological bottlenecks

🔴 Critical

  • Automatic and dynamic handling for the QR Codes generation (probably the toughest part of this project)

🟡 Watch out for

  • Smooth performance on all devices especially on mobiles with low connectivity (often the connection is not perfect in restaurants)

Monetization strategy 💸

Revenue model

To monetise the idea we would offer a yearly subscription that includes all the features without differentiation and tiers. For high-demanding customers you can consider charging for custom features

Primary revenues:

  • 1 year subscription

  • 3 years subscription

Secondary revenues:

  • Custom branding add-ons

Launch and marketing 📢

Before launch

☑️ Finalise MVP development

☑️ Launch landing page with sign-up forms for early access

Get the idea known

Primary marketing strategies:

  1. Direct outreach to restaurant owners

  2. Referral program within restaurants with discount

  3. Google Ads

Secondary marketing strategies:

How could this idea miserably fail? 📉

The main problems with this idea could be:

  • Over relying on one income source —> Introduce multiple revenue streams

    • Pay-per-use options

    • Add-on features

  • Heavy reliance on restaurant industry —> Diversify into adjacent markets

    • Cafés and small shops

    • Hotels

  • Easy of entry —> Offer unique features (ex. advanced analytics) that would make using your platform a no brainer

Important: Make the onboarding process for new customers effortless and easy to join the platform reducing friction and guiding the restaurant owner to start using the system straight away

Discuss this idea with AI 🤖

I am developing a platform that helps restaurant owners easily create digital menus with dynamic QR codes. The idea is to allow restaurant owners to build these menus effortlessly, update them in real time, and print dynamic QR codes that link to the menus for customers to scan. My business will monetize through annual and three-year subscription plans.
I plan to grow with direct outreach to restaurants and offer referral program to restaurant owners.

Conclusions 👋

This was pretty much it for today. I really like this idea and while I know that at first impact it might seem there’s no market for it, if you manage to market it properly and try to target local restaurants, it has its potential.
